Join nurse leaders from across the Commonwealth for the VONL Fall Conference, taking place virtually this year on October 3, 2025, from 10am to 3pm.
Theme: Humanity and Innovation – Leading the Future of Compassionate, Accountable Care
This year's theme speaks to the heart of modern nursing leadership—balancing cutting-edge innovation with the timeless commitment to compassionate care.
By going virtual, we hope to expand access for nurse leaders who may be limited by the travel and time commitments of traditional in-person events. Whether you're tuning in from your workplace, home, or anywhere in between, you'll be part of an engaging and inspiring experience.

Speakers

SVP, System Chief Nursing Officer at Providence
Syl is leader of significant impact. In his position, he serves at the voice for nursing at the most senior executive level, representing nursing practice for over thirty-eight thousand nurses in fifty one hospitals and approximately eleven-hundred clinics in seven states. In addition to his duties as a System Chief Nursing Executive at Providence, he is an assistant professor for TTUHSC in the Masters in Nursing Administration program. He currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Institute of Human Caring, the American Hospital Association's Clinical Leadership Committee, and the Board of Trustees for CGFNS, the world's largest credentials evaluation agency for nursing and allied health. Syl also serves on the Audit & Risk Committee for the American Academy of Nursing, serves on the Board of OpusVi, and is an elected AONL Board member representing Region 9.

Tiffany Covarrubias-Lyttle is a nurse with a diverse career path that spans social work, counseling, education, nursing, policy, and leadership. She holds degrees from Centra College, Liberty University, and Johns Hopkins University. Tiffany currently serves as the Director of Cultural Integration at Centra Health, where her focus is on ensuring that healthcare teams are welcomed, valued, and that everyone understands their pathways to success. She is actively involved in the Virginia Nurses Association as a member of the Commission on Nursing Practice and the National Association of Hispanic Nurses as chair of the Climate Action Council. Additionally, she serves on the Governor's Virginia Health Workforce Development Board.

Barbara Olson, MS, RN, CPPS, FISMP is a Senior Advisor with The Just Culture Company. In this capacity, she supports healthcare clients in planning and sustaining Just Culture as a system of workplace justice. Barbara is a graduate of Emory University and Regis University and began her career as a perinatal nurse. She completed the Institute for Safe Medication Practice's one-year Safe Medication Management Fellowship in 2008. Before joining The Just Culture Company in 2019, Barbara held professional positions with HCA Healthcare as Corporate Director, Patient Safety and LifePoint Health as Vice President, Clinical Improvement & Healthcare Safety. Barbara completed AHA-NPSF’s Comprehensive Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship in 2011-2012. She currently serves on the CBPPS Executive Oversight Committee and has held Certification as a Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) since 2012. She has been a TeamSTEPPS master trainer since 2012.

LeadWell: Harnessing AI to Reduce Burnout and Build Connection

1.0 CE CreditAI-powered strategies offer nurse leaders tools to manage large teams more effectively. Platforms that can streamline communication and provide insights to mitigate burnout and improve well-being can also support nurse leaders by reducing administrative workload. These technologies enable leaders to interact with staff, recognize contributions, and foster professional relationships. Advanced systems can also identify early signs of burnout and suggest timely interventions, while providing analytics that may aid in recruitment and retention. Collectively, AI-based solutions can support nurse leaders in improving leadership efficiency and operational outcomes.
Session Objective: Learners will explore how technology and AI can help nurse leaders mitigate burnout, foster connection, and enhance meaningful recognition.
